Budget Build: Misfit Psycles Dissent- The Parts II
February 5th, 2009 by Guitar TedCarrying on now with the parts on our Budget Build of the Misfit Psycles Dissent, we take a look at the controls.

“If it ain’t Moto- It’s worthless!”
I used an aluminum Salsa Cycles Moto Ace S.U.L. stem on this build. I like the “Stiff Upper Lip” design on the face plate and the burly, oversize construction is in keeping with the frame’s looks. Plus, it almost matches the frame and fork finish to a “T”. All that for about $30.00 or so retail from many sources. The stem is a 100 X 0 degree rise model, by the way.

These grips have a unique take on the lock on style grip.
The grips I used are a unique style of lock on grip by KORE called the Gripster. The grips are sort of a clam shell with three bolts that are evenly spaced along the front of the grip. The bolts tighten the clam shell securely on to you handle bars. The Gripster has a diamond pattern grip surface of Krayton and is slightly ergo shaped. They weigh about 138 grams a pair and you can score these for about $30.00 from several sources.

Misfit Psycles supplied the bar action here.
The frame and fork came with this Fu2Bar which has some seriously swept ends. 37 degrees to be exact. The bars are 600mm wide and have just a wee bit of rise. I thought they would work great since I am a big fan of swept bars. If you are too, you can go to the PsycleStore and pick up a set of your own Fu2Bars for about $42.00 plus shipping.

Look closely. It’s Cane Creek’s S-3 headset.
You can certainly spend a whole lot more on a head set, but it probably wouldn’t be a whole lot beter than this Cane Creek S-3 unit I have here. 112 grams, cartridge bearings, and black. MSRP is about $50.00, but I have seen these for as little as $30.00 online. A great deal for a great working man’s head set.
Stay tuned for more on the Budget Build soon!
(Appologies for my untrimmed hydro hoses! I’ll get to it soon!)
