Misfit Psycles “Cod” Cog: On Test
January 28th, 2009 by Guitar TedPart of our series “Budget Build”, to be introduced soon, and also a part of our Twenty Nine Inches coverage of the Misfit Psycles Dissent review, we have the “Cod” cog here to take a look at.

What It Is: The “Cod” cog is an aluminum, Shimano spline compatible single speed cog that will fit most any geared cassette hub for a mountain bike and most but not all single speed cassette hubs. It is constructed out of an aluminum 7075-T6 alloy and features a wide base, so it won’t damage aluminum free hub bodies. (But is that really a problem with an aluminum cog?) One thing is for certain, it is black. Very black!
Also worth noting is that you can get the Cod Cog in 16T through to 22T sizes for a MSRP of $30.00. The cogs have a swank laser etched logo on them with the alloy designation and chain compatibility as well. This makes them look all high tech! We’ll see if the performance lives up to the looks when we get the Dissent built up and out in the field.
Aluminum cogs for single speeding may be a head scratcher for some out there, but we have been assured that these will hold up very well. They are certainly light. Our 18T cog weighed in at 20 measly grams! We’ll see about the stength and longevity in due time. Stay tuned for further updates within our Dissent review updates and here in our “Budget Build” series, coming soon.
