Quad “Dime XC” Hydraulic Brakes: First Impressions
November 25th, 2008 by Guitar TedI have gotten a few rides in on the Quad brakes and have this First Impressions post to pass along.

The brakes installed easily, were easy to adjust so that they didn’t drag, and were spot on out of the box. No bleeding necessary. This is good, because DOT #4 fluid is some nasty stuff! If you do have to bleed these brakes, keep a nice small bucket of water handy to wipe down or flush off any excess brake fluid. (Brake fluid is attracted to water) Make sure you wear rubber gloves and eye protection, and don’t get any fluid on your paint job, or anything that might be sensitive to chemicals. You’ve been warned! The brake bleeding instructions are quite thorough, I must add.
The first few rides on disc brakes are always marginal, since your pads need to bed into the rotors before you will achieve maximum braking power. The Quad Dime XC brakes bedded in fairly quickly; however, and braking power ramped up significantly for me right away. The adjusters for lever feel were very effective and I was able to dial in a good feel at both levers that was consistent side to side. I felt that the brakes have good modulation and feel so far.
I will be doing a hose shortening and more riding in the coming weeks and months as I continue to dial in this bike. After I get some more trail time in, I will report back. So far, I am pleasantly surprised at how nice these brakes are. Time will tell if that impression lasts or changes. Until then…..
