Fluid Recovery Drink: Mid Term Report
November 21st, 2008 by Guitar TedNote: This report is filed by Grannygear from Southern California
It was with a bit of sadness that I used my last two scoops of Fluid recovery drink this last weekend. Not that I cannot get more, but it may be a few days till then and I hate to ride hard without a tasty bottle waiting for me post-ride. Really, I like it that much.
If you recall the Out Of The Box article for Fluid I had run into one of the company founders, Richard Smith, at a local mountain bike event. I liked the approach they had, they way the company came to be (check out the Fluid story at the website{http://www.livefluid.com/}). I had really ramped up my training goals and recovery was becoming a real concern. I was skeptical, but hopeful.
I was looking for consistent results over a full container’s use. It is pretty easy to fool yourself once thinking you feel faster, etc after using any supplement, but to fool yourself for a month or more is much harder. Also, I would have times that I would not use Fluid after a hard ride to compare that as well.
The results I had the first time I used it were surprising. It was a pretty hard half day of riding with 4.5 hours of tight singletrack climbs and fireroad sections, not killer hard, but enough to where my legs were worked over nicely. This is the type of ride that leaves me feeling it in the quads the day after when you go to climb a flight of stairs, etc. You know you did something the day before. I followed up the ride with a cold bottle of Fluid stashed in a cooler in the truck. The next day I went on a morning ride with a family or two with the goal of getting the kids out and meeting for pancakes after. I took the SS just because it was going to be a cakewalk day.
Not.
Everyone decides to make the ‘top of the hill’ the goal for the day. OK. Well, I had not planned on that, but up I go on the SS Monkey and I will be horn swaggled if I could tell I rode the day before. Yeah, I could feel my chest was a bit weary, but my legs were amazingly fresh feeling. Huh.
Well, that continued to be the case ride after ride. This is good stuff for an old duffer like me as recovery is harder to accomplish as you get older. I let my wife try it for the times she packs two workouts into one day. She is a swimmer/gym rat/Jazzerciser and normally she is dragging a bit after those harder days. She noticed a significant improvement in energy level after drinking Fluid post-workout.
I still enjoy the taste of the Tropical Escape (I have not tried any other flavors), the light digestive feeling with no stomach upset, the way the mix leaves no residue in the bottle it is placed into and the way my body responds to the benefits of a better recovery plan.
If you are looking for a recovery solution, Fluid is worth a try. There is no magic bullet that will make you an overnight fast guy, and Fluid is no exception, but it has helped me feel better the day after a training ride, giving me the energy to get out and train more often. Really, just what I was looking for.
