Quad “Dime XC” Hydraulic Brake System: Out Of The Box
November 19th, 2008 by Guitar TedRecently I purchased a set of these Quad branded hydraulic brakes to install on one of my 29″ers. The model is the “Dime XC” and is available in silver or white, which is what I got.
The brakes come pre-bled and installed without issue. The split perch made mounting the levers a snap and the mounting hardware was aligned well which made installing the calipers almost too easy. The kit comes with some bits to help in shortening the hoses, if necessary, a nice touch.
I got the 180mm rotors front and rear. The “Pulse” rotors are a unique shape and look very well made. The levers also feature an adjustment for lever throw that has an easy to turn red dial, another nice touch. The calipers are of a one piece “monobloc” design and have dual pistons actuated by DOT #4 hydraulic fluid. The weight for the entire system is 500 grams per wheel with rotor, hoses, fluid, lever, and all mounts and hardware. These brakes are also compatible with standard post mounts as well. These brakes are available through your local bike shop and run about $140.00 for the 160mm rotor set ups per wheel. Expect to pay slightly more for the available 180mm and 203mm rotor brake sets.
