BBB Components HighWatt Light: Out Of The Box
November 9th, 2008 by Guitar TedNote This report is filed by Captain Bob from rural Iowa….
This time of year everyone needs a light. There are many good lights out there for commuting but it’s tough to decide which one to get. I had the same problem. We are taking a closer look at the BBB HighWatt.
It is a nice, neat little light. The aluminum casing is water-resistant. There is a seal near the threads where the batteries are stored and the on/off button is also sealed rubber. The handlebar mount will allow you to have it on a 25.4mm through 31.8mm. There is a rubber shim that you would remove for the larger bars. The mount is not hinged so it relies on the softness of the plastic to do the flexing to get around the bar for mounting.
I don’t have a weight on the light yet but will get it to G-Ted at the lab for a weigh-in. The light is powered by 4 AAA batteries (alkaline’s supplied). Not sure what the burn time is yet, but after some usage I should have a better idea. One really great feature that makes me appreciate the light a bit more is the mount. There is a lever underneath that you can press to release the light from the mount. The mount stays on the bar, but the light becomes mobile. Nice for helping out another rider working on their bike,or just making it easier to dig in your bag for something. Should come usefull on the ride.
I can’t report too much yet on the actual performance, since I have only used it for about one half hour. I will report back very soon with another post after I get more time with the light. In the email I received from BBB, they stated the street price will range from $47-$53. The light measures about 4 inches long and 1 1/8 inch in diameter.
