Interbike 2008 : Color Trends

September 23rd, 2008 by Arleigh

It seems like across the board here at Interbike the large trend I am seeing is color matching parts.  I’m talking hubs, stems, brakes, headsets, bolts.. its a flash back to the days that Guitar Ted will ramble on about. In the next few days I’ll post up more photos about this but for now have a taste from Cane Creek, Crank Brothers, Raleigh, and Vassago.

Maybe we’re set to live in this ‘market cycle’ of wanting ridiculously anondized matching parts: Levers, bolts, stem, seatpost, cranks, hubs, spoke/nipples, chain ring bolts. Then realize just how awful and wasteful it all is only to go back to black, black and more black and maybe some silver?

Reminds of the monochrome paint jobs and cheesy graphics on Pro Street cars back in the 80s.

I, for one, absolutely love having this many color choices. Sure, it’s cheesy, but it lets a rider really personalize his or her bike — following a bike-wide theme or just adding a splash of color for fun.

What I would really like to see is more silver components. Sometimes those can be hard to find…particularly handlebars and stems.
