Control Tech : Grips
August 27th, 2008 by ArleighThis is part of an on going set of reviews on a group of parts that Control Tech sent for review. The first part was on their SUP MT 18SC handlebars.
After some follow up I have learned this are BMX grips and not really designed for how I was riding them. So please take this review with that in mind!

These Control Tech grips I can’t find anywhere on their website or price list so my assumption is they are sent with their bars to completely outfit the kit.
The grips are lock on’s with a slightly different mechanics to lock them on your bar than most ODI, Cane Creek or other grips I have seen. The grips still have two set screws on each end, but there is a band that tightens down on the bar on both sides. When trying to tighten the grips down I couldn’t get the grip tight enough with out starting to ovalize the scandium bar I was installing them on. I would highly recommend bar plugs for reinforcement with these grips. The width is also changed a bit with this new lock on, the grip is slightly narrower than a standard lock on.
Feeling the rubber make up of the grip you would think it is much like my beloved Ruffian from ODI. The same diamond look in the rubber. The only thing with the Ruffian is as you get sweaty or wet with rain they get sticky. These grips don’t. By the end of a 10 mile ride my hands hurt so much from death gripping due to my hands slipping off. The next two rides I tried with two different pairs of grips and still no luck.
Quickly these grips came off due to limited hand movement available with its narrower grip surface and slippery rubber. I’m hoping because these aren’t listed on their site or price list they aren’t something they will be selling or putting on OEM bikes.
