Lezyne Alloy Drive S Mini Pump: Out Of The Box
August 13th, 2008 by Guitar TedThe Bike Lab has just recieved a mini pump to test and review from Lezyne. Lezyne is a newer accessory company started by Micki Kozuscheck, the man behind TruVativ before he sold the company to SRAM. We have the Alloy Drive S pump, an absolutely gorgeous pump that brings an old idea back and does it in a smart, modern way.

Specifically, the Alloy Drive S uses an old idea that reduces stress on valve stems that might potentially damage the stem or in some cases, ruin a tube. There is a hidden hose inside the Alloy Drive S that takes all the bending forces induced by pumping instead of your valve stem.

After removing the hidden hose you will see markings indicating which end to use on your Presta or Schrader valve tube. Simply thread the other end into the pump body. The pump also eschews rubber grommets to seal onto the valve stem and instead threads on to the valve stem itself, eliminating the need to get a new rubber for your pump head someday. Genius!

The whole pump just oozes with quality. There isn’t a plastic piece to be found on it. The pump is mainly aluminum construction that is anodized to keep its luster long after you pull it from its minimalistic packaging. The pump is rated to fill large volume tires yet still can reach 90 psi. Lezyne says it offers 30% more air per stroke than most pumps in this class. Hmm…..we’ll have to check that out later. For now I can say it weighs in at a paltry 112 grams and is just shy of seven and three quarters inches long.

The Alloy Drive S comes with a traditional under the water bottle mount and is secured by a velcro strap. It looks so good, and seems to be of such a high quality that you might want to look for something to puncture on, just so you can use it. Well…….maybe its not that nice!
Look for an update on the pump coming soon!
