Bontrager’s Inform RL Saddle: Update
May 26th, 2008 by Guitar TedLast time I reported on the Inform RL, I said I was waiting until I had taken a long ride on it before passing judgement on it. Well, that has happened now and I am ready to render a verdict!

Let me first explain why I feel a longer ride was necessary. I have ridden plenty of bicycle saddles in my day. Most feel okay for a short ride. A few work pretty well for rides in the hour plus range. However; it has been my experience that if the ride exceeds the three hour mark, very few if any saddles pass muster, for me. I find that “all day comfort” is a hard commodity to come by in saddles for bicycles.
And again, saddles are highly personal things. The Bontrager Inform RL may not be a good fit for you, but with the three saddle widths, each with their own specific curvature, my guess is that this will be a great saddle for alot of people. Bontrager does offer a ride guarantee, so that should aid anyone looking to try one of these out.
My verdict? After a seven hour slog on gravel roads on a single speed, I can honestly say that the Inform RL is a winner. Even three hours after the ride, I feel no discomfort. No numbness, no discomfort, or soreness at all during any part of the ride or afterwards.
While the testing has been going great for the Inform so far, I still want to do some mountain biking to ascertain if the Inform RL is a good choice for that activity. I’ll report back with my findings soon.
