BBB Components: ErgoFix Grips and ErgoSticks Bar Ends-Out Of The Box

May 9th, 2008 by Guitar Ted

The Bike Lab has recieved some components from BBB, a company well known in Europe, but maybe a brand you’ve not heard from here in the States. We recieved some grips and bar ends, (amongst a few other things we’ll detail later) that are really interesting. The ErgoFix grips and the ErgoSticks bar ends

BBB Components grip and bar end combo

These bear more than a passing resemblance to another very popular ergonomic grip out there, so we were really curious to see these and get some ride time on them. Here we will give you the details on the products and a bit later down the road we’ll post up some ride reviews for you to check out.

Overhead look at the ErgoFix/ErgoSticks product

The grips and bar ends can be used separately and are compatible with any mountain bike bar. The ErgoFix grips are 135mm long, use two screws to clamp onto the handle bar, and are made from Kraton with a harder plastic/composite making up the inner grip and clamp area. The clamp itself is made from aluminum and uses two opposing set screws to lock onto the bar. The clamp is reminescent of a SRAM Grip Shift clamp but uses a split ring that the set screws press against to clamp onto the bar instead of having the screw itself dig into the handlebar. The design of the clamp looks pretty handle bar friendly and well thought out to prevent slippage.

The grips weigh 100 grams each and have a soft, grippy feel to them. The ends have a curious “notch” shape that integrates with the ErgoSticks bar ends for a smooth transition from grip to bar end if you decide to use the two products together. The ErgoSticks are made with an aluminum clamp and Kraton grip area covering the entire outside of the bar end. The shape is very hand friendly looking. The ErgoSticks weigh 60 grams each and are 110 mm long each.

The ErgoSticks bar ends

The two products together form a fairly seamless grip/bar end combo that looks to be pretty long ride friendly. Captain Bob and I will be testing these out soon, so stay tuned for an update.

BBB Components are distributed to independant bike shops through Bike Mine. The MSRP’s are as follows: ErgoFix grips- $19.99 and the ErgoSticks bar ends- $21.99

Seem to be cheap. Do you know the ERGON make? How does it compare?
    And a principal question:
And even if the contact space is larger aren’t soft rubber bars better damping?
    questions over question…

Efried: Yes, we are huge fans of Ergon stuff here at The Bike Lab. We will certainly be making any appropriate comparisons during the review. Stay tuned.

I am curious about these, I just recently tried my first Ergo-style grips and love ‘em I have Avenir on 1 bike (shaped like ergon/BBB) and I have Serfas Ergos on another bike. Which have a totally different design, and would like to see a comparo of those to the Ergon/BBB grips.
