These cranks were mounted up to my single swizzle roughly three weeks back. So far they have been ridden bottom bracket deep in water, been beat pretty hard on rock gardens and dropped, crank arm down, into a creek bed.
It is hard to say if I am a fan of outboard bearing cranks. I lust over a square taper crank set but I’m not sure if that is due to the lack of decent outboard bearings or the retro grouch that runs in my blood. Phil Wood did just come out with a pair of their own (not something you need to add to your current cups.) Most of my bikes do have outboard bearing cranks due to them being readily available lately.
Now that I have beat on that outboard bearing drum I want to say that so far these cranks are doing very well. The bottom bracket isn’t crunchy yet and I haven’t been standing on the pedals thinking “wow, I wish these would add 5 watts to my pedaling.” They are plenty stiff, but I ride a steel bike so bottom bracket stiffness really outweighs crank stiffness. It is very nice in the days of crazy frame design to have easy chain line adjustment. No need to buy multiple bottom bracket lengths to figure it out that magic chain line with the spacers that you can switch between the sides. Also if you switch between bottom bracket size frames (68mm and 73mm) you just need to add or subtract a spacer or two.
These cranks are clean cut, not too glitzy and very well priced. That is exactly everything I want in a single speed crank.
