Sea Otter Classic In Photos

April 22nd, 2008 by Guitar Ted

Here are some cool products we spied at Sea Otter last week. Take a look and enjoy. We will have some more in depth coverage coming afterwards.

Ritchey bar and stem in white

White components: They are not just for slope style freaks anymore! Here we see Ritchey components in white: a stem and handlebar, which are available now.

Rotor stems

Rotor made a name for themselves with the cranks that sported the egg shaped chainrings. Now they are branching out into other components. Here we see their two and four bolt stems that are using a unique fastener arrangement. Instead of having traditional bolts, the Rotor stems use threads on each end of the fastener to draw the stem plate and stem together more evenly. This distributes stresses over a wider area and allows Rotor to utilize a slightly lighter weight structure in their designs that is just as strong if not stronger than most competing stems. Very cool looking CNC work on these, by the way.

SDG saddle with I-Beam and Topeak compatible snap in bag tab

SDG (Speed Defies Gravity) has been a name that us old skool mountain bikers have been familiar with for several years. Now they have been purveyors of the ubiquitous I-Beam saddles and here we have the very latest. An I-Beam saddle with an integrated saddle bag tab that interfaces with Topeak’s clip on bags.

SDG cowhide print saddle

SDG is also showing some “traditional” railed saddles with some wild motifs. Here we have cowhide…..

SDG saddle wildcat print

….and a wild cat print. Grrrrrrrr!

Ritchey Break Away Cross/Single speed bike

One of my favorites from Sea Otter 2008: A Ritchey Break Away single speed/cross travel bike. Sporting a 120mm OLD rear end, it would make a great urban assault machine that fits into it’s own travel case that you can take anywhere. We will have a more extensive report on the travel bike sector in an upcoming Bike Lab post.
