Tensioner Test: Soulcraft Convert
April 8th, 2008 by Arleigh
Soulcraft Convert
Price - $75.99
- Pushrod quick release feature for easy wheel removal
- Quiet polyurethane roller
Arleigh’s Opinion: The biggest advantage to this tensioner over any other we might put on The Bike Lab is the unique push rod that locks the tensioner in place. No bolts, no spring tension, locked in place! As one of the most expensive tensioners on the market most shops don’t carry this one in stock.
Guitar Ted’s Opinion: A roller instead of a derailluer jockey type wheel is often thought to be quieter. It’s one of the reasons some folks love single speeding. A solid tensioner can not get knocked out of place easily and therefore wins in the confidence inspiring category.

I like the roller rather than a pully/gear design, I am currently using a Singleator and the one complant I have is that the chain seems to get caught on the teeth, ultimately messing up my cadence.
