Ay Up! Lights : An Update
March 23rd, 2008 by ArleighFor 2 months I have been using the Ay Up lights roughly 2-3 times a week, give or take. Either on a early morning commute or at night in the woods with friends.
Slowly the lights have grown on me. The handlebar mount with light velcro-strapped to the stem is perfect for commuting. Leave it there and not worry about it for a few good rides. Weight is amazing. I often carry the extra 3 hour battery in my commuting pack just in case. It isn’t one of those batteries that feel like a block of lead. Often the battery was lighter than the tube rolled up and sitting next to it in the bag.
The helmet mount was tricky to set up perfect. If I would of taken the time the first time I installed the strap/zip tie system it wouldn’t been fine. Unfortunately zip ties aren’t easy to adjust on the trails and I ended up having to cut them off to try a different position on the helmet. Again - not something easy to do on the side of the trail.
Over all the package is great. It has its pro’s and con’s as does any light or product. If minimal and decent power with in a small package is what you are looking for - this is your light. If you want the multiple light powers, as many lumens as you can produce and something with a well known name - this isn’t your light.
