Tomi COGs

January 3rd, 2008 by Arleigh

There has been some ripples in the blogosphere about new fixed gear cogs that bolt on to your 6 bolt disc hub.   The ripples lead me to Tomi COGs. The basics that you need are a bike with either horizontal drop outs or an EBB and a rear wheel with disc drilling.  You can’t use a chain tensioner so don’t try it.

This isn’t a new idea but it is an idea that hasn’t been found too often in steel.  Endless had (from what I recall) their aluminum, Boone their Ti and I think a couple super small fabricators have dabbled.   Now it looks like someone is taking it seriously, especially now that single speed is so huge.

If Team Dicky is trying it, why aren’t you?

Interesting idea, although I only really see this working with a rim brake bike and a 2nd disc hub wheel.

    To add-

@ now someone needs to come up with a bike version of the Rooke Sprotor (motorcycle brake sys.)

I know of quite a few people that drilled holes in Shimano DX cogs to do the same thing, of course, if you do this you can’t run a rear disc.

Quinn - It works out perfect for my 29er monocog which came with rim brakes but is disc ready. I’ve got no interest in running discs and do have an interest in riding it fixed. I ordered a 16 last night which is the same size i run on the freewheel so I’m thinking i won’t even have to adjust my brakes when flipping the wheel!

I have 2 and want to have a whole size run soon!

    Work super well!
