New Headset on the Market

November 9th, 2007 by Arleigh

Back at Interbike Cane Creek released a new headset, the 110.

Information pulled from Cane Creek’s website :

  • Hard-Pack Alloy – The cups and spacers are machined from a custom drawn seamless tube of 7050 Plus Aluminum. This unique manufacturing process allows for an incredibly strong material without a weight penalty.
  • Captured Compression Ring – Variations in steer tube diameters are common and sometime shims are needed to correct this. The “Captured” compression ring keeps these shims in place while maintaining the simplicity of the system.
  • Split Lip Bearing – By incorporating a dual lip design the bearing gets twice the protection of standard headsets while decreasing friction.
  • Low Weight – Without its spacers or preload assembly, the Cane Creek 110 is a remarkably light 97.5 grams. You won’t find a better performing, more durable headset. Finding a lighter one is just as unlikely.

I should have one of these in my hands with in a month as they won’t be in stock till then. I’ll have weight, better interior photos and all those details that I’m sure you want to know.

I’m glad to see that someone is finally stepping up to push the envelope in headsets. It was Cane Creek (Aheadset) that invented the threadless headset!

Well, technically it was Dia Compe who “invented” the Aheadset, but that’s splitting hairs…isn’t Cane Creek a spinoff of Dia Compe?

The cups sound interesting…what are other aluminum headset cups made out of? A different alloy or something? And that thing sounds crazy light — I’m looking forward to a review of it!

dia compe is aheadset who is Cane Creek.

Gets confusing. They own a crazy amount of small companies.

and gets more confusing when you try to figure out the connection between Dia-Compe / Dia-Tech Taiwan and Dia-Compe USA / Cane Creek…

Have you ever used their Solo or Tank headset?

Yes the make entry level headsets that aren’t the best but the two I named are GREAT.

…and up until this year, all aheadset headsets manufactured and sold under TH Industries, VP Components, Ritchey, WTB, FSA…had to also put the aheadset logo and patent on their headsets. There may be a little confusion between an actual Cane Creek headset and a licensed one.
