Coordinated or Eclectic Color Scheme?
October 26th, 2007 by Tim GrahlI often hear Guitar Ted go on about the good ole days of mountain biking when you couldn’t buy a nice mountain bike stock off a shelf. In those days you had to build your bike from the ground up and you could mix and match parts to make the bike your own.
Then it seemed as if you went to having two color choices in components for your bike. Silver or black.
However there is a resurgence now in colorful options. Surly is always releasing a random part of theirs in a new color. Chris King is making it easier to mix up their already colorful options. Other companies are jumping on board in giving riders lot’s of colorful options in their components.
The bike I’m currently riding has a red frame, black stem/post/saddle/bars, silver brake/shifter casings, green grips, silver headset, pink pedals… very much my own eclectic mix of color. However I know people like to keep their bike color coordinated as much as possible. Whether it’s sticking to silver/black or the Gary Fisher Rig that showed up at the Big Wheeled Ballyhoo with as much blue on it as possible.

With all the new color options (which are sure to keep growing), what is your bike going to look like? Sticking with the all black/silver? Or mixing it up?

Purple, or pink. Plain and simple
I have only one rule about the color of parts on the bike I’m currently building up: Color doesn’t matter so long as the part is inexpensive. I paid $16.98 for a new frame. I don’t want to spend $300+ on parts for it. So far I’m up to $75 (including the frame), and I only need a few more parts. As for the colors, the frame is red; hubs, handlebars, seatpost, brake levers, singulator, headset, rear brakes, and tires are black; the stem, cranks & hubs are silver; the fork I’m supposed to get is a different shade of red; and I’m not sure if the front brakes are silver or black. I really don’t care.
i have a rasta kona coiler i guilt with rasta headset and skewers. everything else is black or gold
My 3 bikes- 1) red, black, white & raw, 2) orange & black, 3) Black, white & yellow. Then I add in an orange & grey helmet, black, red, orange, yellow & white cap, black & grey cleats, and various matching shorts and jerseies.
Matching but on a broad scheme.
Any color as long as it’s black or red if I have a choice. My current ride is all black with some silver bits, & red/black grip tape.
color doesnt matter. Just ride.
Color? Huh? What are you, some kinda bag-matchin’ priss or what? I betchya even match your socks.
In fact, my bike matches my ride clothes. Black & Red, Baby. My last bike was an off-the-shelf-last-year’s-model and it was freakin’ yellow .
